Important Notice

HELSI is not a medical device, is not FDA-cleared or CE-marked, and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. The platform is designed for informational and educational purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional medical care.

1. No Medical Advice

The information provided by HELSI — including but not limited to nutritional data, glycemic index (GI) values, glycemic load (GL) calculations, traffic light food ratings, and insulin dose estimations — is for general informational purposes only. It should not be interpreted as medical advice or a substitute for consultation with a qualified healthcare professional.

Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking medical treatment because of information you have read or received through HELSI.

2. Insulin Dose Estimations

HELSI can estimate insulin doses based on personal coefficients that you provide, including:

  • Insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio (e.g., 1 unit per 10g carbs)
  • Correction factor / insulin sensitivity factor (e.g., 1 unit lowers glucose by 2 mmol/L)
  • Current blood sugar level
  • Meal carbohydrate content

These estimations are approximate calculations only. They do not account for all factors that affect insulin needs, including but not limited to: physical activity, stress, illness, hormonal changes, medication interactions, alcohol consumption, fat and protein content of meals, gastroparesis, or insulin absorption variability.

Always verify insulin doses with your endocrinologist or diabetes care team. Incorrect insulin dosing can result in severe hypoglycemia (dangerously low blood sugar) or hyperglycemia (dangerously high blood sugar), both of which can be life-threatening.

3. Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load Data

Glycemic index and glycemic load values provided by HELSI are based on published scientific data and third-party nutrition databases. These values are general estimates and may vary due to:

  • Food preparation and cooking methods
  • Ripeness of produce
  • Product formulation changes by manufacturers
  • Individual metabolic differences
  • Combinations of foods eaten together
  • Portion size variations

The traffic light system (Green / Yellow / Red) is a simplified visual indicator to assist decision-making. It is not a clinical assessment. Individual glycemic responses vary significantly between people.

4. Nutritional Data Accuracy

Nutritional information is sourced from third-party databases including Open Food Facts, USDA FoodData Central, and other public and proprietary sources. While we make reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy, we cannot guarantee that all data is complete, current, or free from errors.

Always check product packaging for the most up-to-date nutritional information, particularly if you have food allergies, intolerances, or specific dietary medical requirements.

5. AI-Powered Features

HELSI uses artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to provide personalised insights, pattern detection, and predictive features. AI-generated content and predictions are:

  • Based on statistical models and may contain errors
  • Not equivalent to professional medical analysis
  • Subject to the limitations of available training data
  • Intended to supplement — not replace — medical judgement

6. Not for Emergency Use

HELSI is not designed for use in medical emergencies. If you are experiencing symptoms of severe hypoglycemia, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), or any other medical emergency:

  • Call your local emergency number immediately (e.g., 112 in the EU, 911 in the US, 999 in the UK)
  • Follow your emergency action plan as advised by your healthcare provider
  • Do not rely on HELSI for emergency guidance

7. Individual Medical Conditions

Diabetes management is highly individual. Factors such as your type of diabetes (Type 1, Type 2, LADA, gestational), medications, comorbidities, age, weight, kidney function, and other health conditions all influence how your body responds to food and insulin.

HELSI does not have access to your full medical history and cannot account for all individual factors. The information provided should always be considered alongside your complete medical context.

8. Healthcare Provider Relationship

Use of HELSI does not create a doctor-patient relationship or any form of healthcare provider relationship. We strongly recommend that you:

  • Discuss the use of HELSI with your diabetes care team
  • Share HELSI data (food journals, glucose trends) with your healthcare provider during consultations
  • Follow your prescribed treatment plan and attend regular check-ups
  • Report any concerns or adverse effects to your healthcare provider

9. Limitation of Liability

HELSI, its creators, employees, and affiliates accept no responsibility or liability for any adverse health outcomes, injuries, or damages that may result from the use of or reliance on information provided by the Service. By using HELSI, you acknowledge and accept these limitations.

For full legal terms, please refer to our Terms of Service.
